You did not indicate that the 40 Gb hard drive had Windows installed on it and whether it was the original hard disk for this computer.

Answered on Apr 29, It may be possible to reinstall the operating system to the original factory settings using the recovery partition this is usually accessed by tapping F10 or F11 while booting, although I read somewhere that you might be able to gain access to the Toshiba recovery partition by pressing "0" zero while matsoonic computer is powering on.
